The weekly newsletter from the team at Hannah G. Solomon Elementary School, the pride of Peterson Park!
Solomon Principal Newsletter: September 8, 2017
Dear Parents and Community,

It has been an exciting first week of school for students and staff--new classroom libraries to explore, new students to meet, new agendas to fill out, and old friends to catch up with. Our staff will be sharing our vision for this year with you at this year's Curriculum Night on Tuesday, September 19, from 6-8pm. Like last year, we ask that the students stay at home that evening with the grandparents or the neighbors, as that night is our best opportunity at the outset of the year for staff and parents to have substantive conversations about the school year. Working together, our students will have a great school year!
Change in Before- and After- School Provider
Due to unforeseen circumstances, I want to let everyone know that we have ended our relationship with Chicago Enrichment Program this past week. We are now working to secure a new provider. I will provide everyone with all the necessary information on the new provider (pricing, times, curriculum), as as well as the timeline for when the new provider will be in place, when I have something concrete to share.

I thank everyone for their patience during this transition. As always, you can reach out to me directly with any questions.
News and Updates
  • Registration for Fall Sports Programming (Boys Soccer, Girls and Boys Volleyball, and Girls and Boys Cross Country) is now open for students in grades 5-8 through September 22. All sports are "no try out, no cuts" so everyone should feel welcome to participate. Paper applications will go home this week and are also available here. Please return completed applications to the main office by September 22.

  • Congratulations to Ms. Stirling and Ms. McReynolds for the successful funding of their Donors Choose projects, bringing adaptive musical equipment to students in our cluster program and a listening station to the kindergarten classroom, respectively.
