The weekly newsletter from the team at Hannah G. Solomon Elementary School, the pride of Peterson Park and a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School
Solomon Principal Newsletter: December 1, 2017
Dear Parents and Community--

I hope that everyone enjoyed a five day break last week with friends and family. This week featured a well-deserved celebration of our staff and students for their National Blue Ribbon School achievement. We hosted Mayor Rahm Emanuel, 39th Ward Alderman Margaret Laurino, CPS CEO Forrest Claypool, and CPS CEdO Dr. Janice Jackson, all of whom came to congratulate our staff and students. Our course, our students were the stars of the show, from Hannan in 8th grade introducing the Mayor to our range of Kindergarten to 8th grade students telling us what Solomon means to them. Be sure to check out the video of the press conference posted below, as well as videos released by the district's Communications Department, that help to tell our story (both linked below).

Attendance Corner
Our end-of-November attendance so far is 96.47%, an increase of .8% from the same point last year. Way to go, students!

This holiday season, the best gift you can give your child is a good education. And the best way to get that education is by being in school, on time, every day. A missed day is lost instruction that can’t be recovered. This month, our Network will present a special prize to the school with the most attendance growth. Let’s make the month of December a record-breaking attendance month to keep us on track for our end of year goal of 96%.
Parent Teacher Organization Updates
Holiday Shop is almost here! December 5 (9am-7pm) and 6 (9am-2pm), our gymnasium is transformed into a holiday market, courtesy of our PTO.

Highlights from our Veterans' Remembrance Ceremony on November 20.
Ms. Reis and her 8th grade students hosted dozens of veterans for the ceremony, which featured Mr. Thomas Day as our keynote speaker, the Navy Band Great Lakes, and student presenters from Solomon and Rickover Naval Academy. This was our 16th annual ceremony, which highlights our commitment to service and honoring our nation's veterans and current troops. Thank you to all that contributed to a beautiful ceremony!
Our awesome students who told us what Solomon means to them, at our ceremony, along with Dr. Janice Jackson, our district's Chief Education Officer
