The weekly newsletter from the team at Hannah G. Solomon Elementary School, the pride of Peterson Park and a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School
Solomon Principal Newsletter: June 8, 2018
Dear Parents and Community--

As the year comes to a close in the next few weeks, I want to publicly thank and recognize all of the volunteers that help to make Solomon a special place, a National Blue Ribbon School, and the pride of Peterson Park. There are so many ways, both big and small, to help out our students and staff--chaperoning field trips, working at the Book Fair, serving as a room parent, supervising Walk, Jog, Roll-a-thon, and coordinating the Soiree, among others. We build community through doing our work together, and you set aside the time and effort to make that happen for our students. We look forward to new opportunities to volunteer and support next year!
News and Updates
  • Due to unforeseen circumstances, there are some schedule changes and cancellations this week, unfortunately. Our sports banquet will be cancelled due to my absence, as well as the PTO meeting on Wednesday. Also, some incentive days for WJR have been changed. The field time incentive will be on Thursday (1pm) and the movie will be on Friday (2pm). Thanks for your flexibility in this busy time of the year. Our Google Calendar on the website is the best place to go for the most up-to-date information.

  • DUE THIS WEEK: SchoolKidz is back for 2018, and the order form is linked here. This is a chance to purchase a kit of all of your child's school supplies in advance, at a discounted rate through Staples. A portion of the proceeds comes back to our Solomon PTO, so it is a win-win! Orders for the 2018-2019 are due June 15.

  • If you are planning on changing schools for the 2018-2019 school year (students currently in grades K-7), please take a moment to inform us of your plans by completing this brief form. It helps us immensely with planning over the summer. Thank you in advance!

  • If you haven't registered your incoming student that will be new to Solomon in grades K-8, registration continues in the main office daily from 12:30-3:30 until June 20. We will share some summer registration dates shortly.
PTO Updates
Upcoming due dates for our community:

  • Lou Malnati's restaurant giveback is our last PTO restaurant event of the school year on June 13. Be sure to bring this flier in when paying; this helps bring more $$$ back to our students!

  • Last day for school supply kit orders from SchoolKidz (see above): June 15.

  • The PTO meeting scheduled for June 13 has been postponed.

In case you missed it...
Our sixth graders enjoyed their trip to the Cernan Earth and Space Center earlier in the month. All classes have had a lot of great, out-in-the-community learning experiences here at the end of the year.
Our Student Council-run student dance this past Friday, including are all-student DJ crew. They got us moving with glow sticks! Thanks to Ms. Ptak, Ms. Jones, and the whole Student Council for a great school year!
We did it! 105 bags of shoes, wit 25 pairs of shoes per bag. With that, we have raised $1000 for the Solomon PTO! Thanks to our student crew for helping us get the shoes loaded up.
