Dear Solomon Family--

Our 4th Quarter is underway! Thank you to all of our families that joined us for parent-teacher conferences and report card pick-up this past week.

The GoCPS elementary school admissions portal goes live at end of the week, as families that live outside Solomon's attendance boundaries and applied for a spot for their child in grades K-8 for the 2022-2023 school learn about their offers. Those offers will appear in your GoCPS portal on Friday, April 29. Students currently enrolled in our K-8 program do NOT need to reapply--this is only for new Solomon students in grades K-8.

Registration for Kindergarten and any other new students in grades 1-8 at Solomon begins Monday, May 2. You can come to Solomon any day between 9:30-11:00 and 2:00-3:30 to start that paperwork.

Pre-Kindergarten registration continues through May 10. For more information on the Pre-Kindergarten application (again, for new students only), please click here.

If you have questions about the GoCPS process, the district is offering a parent training on Wednesday, April 27, and you can sign up for that training here. You can also call our main office daily between 9am-4pm for any assistance.

To learn more about Solomon, join us for a school tour on Friday, April 29, at 9:30am, or a Tot Time event in our Pre-K classroom on May 19 at 4:30.

News and Updates
We are looking for volunteers for our next Scholastic Book Fair (May 16-20). If you are available to volunteer some time at our book fair that week, please complete this Scholastic Book Fair volunteer form.

Calling all alumni! I'm sharing a request from Sean Sy, Solomon graduate from 2005: "My name is Sean and I am an alumnus from the graduating class of 2005. Hannah G. Solomon Elementary has always had a special place in my heart. I opened this Facebook group in the early days of Facebook for my class to keep in touch but it slowly grew to be a community of Solomon Elementary alumni. The group's grown from a small number of my graduating class to over 500 members stemming from the first year of Solomon Elementary's opening. I am not as active anymore on Facebook and the community is truly wonderful. Photographs have been shared of the school, class photos from the early years of the school to today and I was looking to see if someone interested in administrating and taking over the group. It's a great community and deserves the attention it needs." You can access the Facebook account here. Solomon is hosting a hearing and vision re-screening for specific students on Thursday and Friday, April 28-29.

Congratulations to our parent, community, staff, teacher, and student representatives that will be leading our Solomon Local School Council for the 2022-2024 term. You can see the winners of our election this past week here.

Friends of Solomon School Parent Teacher Organization (FOSSPTO)
Our annual Walk, Jog, Roll-a-thon (WJR) fundraiser is returning this year on May 13. Our goal is to raise $20,000 for ADDITIONAL PLAYGROUND IMPROVEMENTS to supplement what the 39th Ward will be providing and to strengthen our school community. We've asked our friends at Booster to power our fundraiser to make it more profitable, fun, and easy for everyone.

If your family feels it is not in the position to financially support the school, that is okay. Families can support our school by also sharing information about our fundraiser with friends and family online. Sharing is supporting!

Key Dates to Remember:

  • Registration opens April 20 at mybooster.com
  • Donating starts on April 27
  • Fundraiser kickoff starts on May 4
  • WJR Event Day is May 13

Current Homerooms Flipped to Remote and Return Dates
There are no homerooms in the flipped to remote protocol, as of April 24.

As of April 24, we have 3 students quarantined due to positive tests, 0 staff members quarantined due to positive tests, and 0 students quarantined as non-vaccinated or partially-vaccinated close contacts.

All close contacts have been contacted by Principal Gamble via email. Fully vaccinated and students with documented positive COVID tests in the past 90 days report for in-person learning.

Solomon Calendar
We have developed a year-long Solomon calendar (here) for community events, including open houses, school tours, coffees with the principal, LSC meetings, and more. This list will continue to be updated. You can always see these events on the community calendar at our school website, solomon.cps.edu.

Community Corner
For more information about programming that the district is hosting over our summer, please click here. When we have specifics about programming that we will offer at Solomon this summer, I will share with the whole community.

CPS students in 6th-12th grades have one more chance this school year to take advantage of FREE classes at the Chicago Industrial Arts and Design Center in Metalworking, Woodworking, Casting and CNC Technology and Design. All of our classes are related to career pathways in STEM, Trade and Art/Design. Our last Spring session begins May 9. Visit https://www.ciadc.org/youth-classes-grades-6-12 for more information.
