The GoCPS application is due December 15 at 6pm. This application is for:

  • all of our 8th graders applying to high school
  • any of our Pre-K students in room 108 that live outside our attendance boundaries and want to attend Solomon for kindergarten
  • anyone that lives outside of the attendance boundary and wants their child to start attending Solomon in the 2022-2023 school year

Note: Current Solomon students do not need to apply!

Solomon News and Updates
Starting January 3, any guardian or visitor will use the new visitor management system. We started this process with all vendors this past week. Please make sure you have a form of photo identification with you when you enter the building. You will scan your ID at our security desk and then receive a temporary badge to wear while in the school building.

Week 15 Progress Reports will be going home with students on Friday, December 17.

I believe that we have over 100 endorsements to get our Solomon playground improvements on the 39th Ward Participatory Budgeting ballot. Let's get this back on the ballot and get the vote out. For more information and to "endorse" this ballot initiative, scan the QR code below or click here.

As of Monday, we should have all three of our classrooms in quarantine back at Solomon. You can access all of our COVID data here. Keeping everyone safe and healthy this week is a big priority, with everyone off to see extended family over the next few weeks. As a reminder, if your child is ill or has any COVID-like symptoms at all, please keep them at home!

This week we have our monthly Local School Council and Friends of Solomon School Parent Teacher Organization meetings, and you can attend either in-person or virtually:

We still have a few dozen families that our medical team, led by Nurse Nancy, is contacting about missing vaccination or physical exam information. Please bring a copy of those materials to the main office.

The school-based dentists visited us this past Thursday and Friday, and they have another 4 days on our calendar over the next month. If you would like school-based dental service and have not turned in authorization form, please complete this document and return to the main office.

Parents and community members interested in volunteering at Solomon this year should go to the volunteer registration website. Level 1 volunteers will be required to provide proof of vaccination before being allowed to volunteer. Volunteers must email a copy of their vaccination card or immunization records to our main office, in addition to completing the application on the website. Please read the "Volunteer Policy" tab to see the difference between Level.1 and Level 2 volunteers. 

J at School is our partner for before and after school care, each day between 7-9am and 4-6pm. For more information and to sign up, click here.

Need assistance from our main office (accessing Parent Portal, getting your child's ID number, an attendance question, etc.) but you think of it off-hours? We have started a form where parents can request main office assistance with any problems or questions you have. Mrs. Tamborino, our school manager, will respond to all requests promptly.
Attendance and COVID-19 Protocols
  • For community resources on student vaccinations, please click here. Families should visit vaccines.gov/search, text your ZIP code to 438829, or call 1-800-232-0233 to find a vaccine appointment. For more information about the district's vaccination program, please click here.

  • Did you know that the city is offering incentives for families getting their children vaccinated, including a $100 Visa gift card? For more information, click here.

  • Before coming to school each day, please self-administer these questions and follow the directions based on your responses.



  • Please return your signed Quarter 2 Student COVID-19 Self-Certification Attestation form to the main office if you haven't done so. The form asks parents to promise that you will self-administer screener questions every morning and keep your child home in case they would not pass that screener. .

  • Students can sign up for in-school COVID-19 testing here, and you can learn more about the testing program here. This testing is required for students in grades 5-8 that are unvaccinated and participate in the CPS Score after-school sports programming.

  • Parents and guardians of fully vaccinated students are urged to submit a copy of their child’s COVID-19 vaccination card to Solomon's main office. Please wait to turn in copies of the card until the final shot has been administered. Vaccination information will be recorded in Aspen, allowing schools to make accurate decisions when it comes to any potential quarantines or classrooms "flipping to remote" due to a potential COVID-19 exposure. Student athletes in grades 5-8 will also need proof of vaccination on file or submit to weekly testing in order to participate in the CPS Score programming. When sending in a copy of the vaccination card, please write your child's name and ID number, if you know it.


  • If your child is going to be absent, we ask that you call the main office (773-534-5226, option 2). Phone calls are helping us follow up with families about the return to in-person learning protocol. An email is not considered a valid submission and will not be accepted to excuse an absence. When leaving a phone message for our main office on your child's absence, please include the following:

  1. Student first and last name
  2. The date of your child's absence
  3. If not a full day absence, the length of time for the absence
  4. The reason for the absence
  5. Your full name (you must be listed as a parent or legal guardian in the student's records)
  6. Your contact number
Solomon Calendar
We have developed a year-long Solomon calendar (here) for community events, including open houses, school tours, coffees with the principal, LSC meetings, and more. This list will continue to be updated. You can always see these events on the community calendar at our school website, solomon.cps.edu.

Community Corner
Chicago Public Schools is looking for volunteers with backgrounds in STEM to help judge our Chicago Public Schools Regional STEM Exhibitions which will be virtual this year. Judging will take place over a two week period, Friday, 2/4/2022 - Friday, 2/18/2021. Here is the link to the Google Form to register to be a judge. 

Free homework help is back at the Albany Park Chicago Public Library Branch (3401 W. Foster) every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 3-6pm.

Registration is now open for the Chicago Industrial Arts and Design Center's Winter term, which begins January 3. Our Youth classes are FREE for CPS 6th-12th graders and designed to support career pathways in STEM, Trades and Art/Design fields. This week our 8th graders made care packages for veterans as part of our partnership with Rush's Road Home Program....
...and they participated in Google's Computer Science Education Week, learning about code from Google engineers.
