Dear Solomon Family--

We had a lot of fun last week with Red Ribbon Week and our Halloween celebration. Thank you to all of our staff, students, and parents that made it happen!

As a reminder, Friday, November 5, is a day of no attendance for students, due to it being a school improvement day. Thursday, November 4, is the last day of the 1st Quarter, with Parent-Teacher Conferences and report card distribution being held on Wednesday, November 17.

For Parent-Teacher Conference day, the district has announced that parents will have the opportunity to attend either in-person or virtually. As we wrap our head around how to schedule our day, I have created a short survey that I would like each household to complete by November 1 at noon. Your answers to the questions will help us effectively schedule that day.

One important note for families considering attending in-person: Due to social distancing requirements and enhanced cleaning procedures in place as a result of COVID-19, only one adult from the household will be permitted to attend in-person, and students will not be permitted to attend. If that does not work with your childcare needs, then please be sure to state your preference for a virtual conference.

In partnership,

Chris Gamble

Solomon News and Updates
We have confirmed with the district that we will have enough students for 5/6 Boys, 5/6 Girls, and 7/8 Boys Basketball. We are still accepting sign-ups for those teams. We are in need of coaches, though. If you are interested in coaching basketball, either as a head coach or an assistant, please reach out to our Athletic Director, Mr. Martin, at

As for other winter before- and after-school programming, we will be hosting informational sessions for some of those clubs this week. A separate email will go out tomorrow with the dates and times for those sessions.

In November Solomon is participating in the America Recycles Day Clothes and Shoes Collection Challenge. We are expecting collection bins to be delivered to Solomon any day, and for more information, click here.

We will be hosting our first Bilingual Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting of the year on Tuesday, November 9, at 5pm in our school library. For more information, click here.

For our 8th grade parents that missed our GoCPS and high school admissions informational session last week, you can access the powerpoint deck here and a recording of the session here. December 15 is the due date for the application.

If you live outside of Solomon's attendance boundary and are looking for admission for your child in grades K-8 for the 2022-2023 school year, you will need to complete an application through GoCPS. If your child is currently a K-8 student at Solomon, you do not need to re-apply.

Parents and community members interested in volunteering at Solomon this year should go to the volunteer registration website. Level 1 volunteers will be required to provide proof of vaccination before being allowed to volunteer. Volunteers must email a copy of their vaccination card or immunization records to our main office, in addition to completing the application on the website. Please read the "Volunteer Policy" tab to see the difference between Level.1 and Level 2 volunteers.

We have amended our volunteer sign-up form to include our Scholastic Book Fair during the week of November 15. If you are available to volunteer during the day, please complete this form and our main office will follow up with you!

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Solomon November 15-18!

J at School is our partner for before and after school care, each day between 7-9am and 4-6pm. For more information and to sign up, click here.

Solomon spirit wear purchases can be made through our partner, Squadlocker. Check out unique Solomon gear here.

Need assistance from our main office (accessing Parent Portal, getting your child's ID number, an attendance question, etc.) but you think of it off-hours? We have started a form where parents can request main office assistance with any problems or questions you have. Mrs. Tamborino, our school manager, will respond to all requests promptly.
Attendance and COVID-19 Protocols
  • Please click here for a COVID community update from October 15.

  • Before coming to school each day, please self-administer these questions and folllow the directions based on your responses.

  • Please return your signed Student COVID-19 Self-Certification Attestation form to the main office if you haven't done so. The form asks parents to promise that you will self-administer screener questions every morning and keep your child home in case they would not pass that screener. .

  • Students can sign up for in-school COVID-19 testing here, and you can learn more about the testing program here. This testing is required for students in grades 5-8 that are unvaccinated and participate in the CPS Score after-school sports programming.

  • Parents and guardians of fully vaccinated students are urged to submit a copy of their child’s COVID-19 vaccination card to Solomon's main office. Vaccination information will be recorded in Aspen, allowing schools to make accurate decisions when it comes to any potential quarantines or classrooms "flipping to remote" due to a potential COVID-19 exposure. Student athletes in grades 5-8 will also need proof of vaccination on file or submit to weekly testing in order to participate in the CPS Score programming. When sending in a copy of the vaccination card, please write your child's name and ID number, if you know it.

  • If your child is going to be absent, we ask that you call the main office (773-534-5226, option 2). Phone calls are helping us follow up with families about the return to in-person learning protocol. An email is not considered a valid submission and will not be accepted to excuse an absence. When leaving a phone message for our main office on your child's absence, please include the following:

  1. Student first and last name
  2. The date of your child's absence
  3. If not a full day absence, the length of time for the absence
  4. The reason for the absence
  5. Your full name (you must be listed as a parent or legal guardian in the student's records)
  6. Your contact number
