Dear Solomon Family--

While we await final guidance from the district regarding tomorrow, if all things stay as is, there will be no remote or in-person instruction at Solomon on Tuesday, January 11.

We will be hosting a limited number of students to come to Solomon for non-instructional open gym and board game activities the rest of this week. For families that have completed the survey, I have responded to you to either confirm (or not). If you still are interested, please click here.

Please do not bring your child to Solomon for one of the open gym times without receiving a confirmation email from me. We are very short staffed right now, so we are hosting only what we believe we can handle at our current staffing level. Group sizes will be kept small, and signing up does not guarantee a spot. That said, it is our effort to give the students some activities outside of the home. It is 100% optional. If you have questions about the programming, please reach out to me at

Thank you to the 23 individuals who came to Solomon today and received their COVID vaccination! Our next event is scheduled for January 31, and you can sign up here.

Our Local School Council meeting will be held virtually on Tuesday, January 11, at 5:30pm. The link to the meeting is, and all members of our community are invited to join us.

If a student or staff member is signed up for our weekly COVID testing service, we invite them to come to Door #1 on Wednesday, January 12, between 1:00-3:00pm to be tested. If you would like to sign your child up for COVID testing please click here.

Additionally, the district has shared the following resources:

  • Independent Learning Projects are available for all students. Hard copies are available at Solomon at Door #1 between 9am-4pm daily, and digital copies can be found at this link.
  • The Safe Haven Sites listed here are available for childcare. Sites will be open from 8 a.m.–3 p.m. Registration is available on site, and a parent or guardian must be present with the child at the time of registration.
  • Chicago Park District field houses will be open during normal operating hours. These facilities will be available to CPS students ages six and older. All Chicago Park District programs will take place as scheduled. For more information on park locations and hours of operation, visit
  • Chicago Public Library locations are open during normal hours (children must be accompanied by an adult and can’t be left at the library unattended). CPL has grab-and-go kits with activities for children to do in the library or to take home.
  • Community Based Organizations throughout the city are offering daytime programs for students. A list of programs can be found here. This list will be updated as new programs are identified. For more information about programs and how to register, please reach out to the contact - or visit the website - listed.

Additionally, take-home breakfast and lunch will be available between 9am-12pm for any community member under the age of 18 who is in need of a meal. Please come to door #6 if you are interested.

This is an active negotiation between the district and the CTU, and circumstances may change. I will continue to send out communication to you before 4pm daily to give you more guidance on the coming day(s). Please understand that each school has unique circumstances and resources, and that this situation is evolving daily.

In partnership,
