Dear Solomon Family--

Thank you for all of your assistance in following our health protocols as we've come back from Winter Break. It has required a lot of flexibility in order to keep students learning safely, and as a parent and school leader I know the challenge that poses to both teaches and parents. Currently we have one classroom in quarantine, plus individual students and staff as a result of testing positive over the break.

Because of the number of classes and individual students in quarantine, we need to make sure that students have access to technology when we switch to remote learning. As a result, we began sending home Chromebooks with students in grades 3-8 this afternoon, with the expectation that students will bring their devices back and forth to school daily. We will do this through the month in response to the increase in positive COVID cases and remote learning.

Those devices for 3rd through 8th graders in our general education programs are the same ones they use in the building daily, so you can help us by reminding students to have their devices with them each day. And you can remind them not to use their Chromebooks as door stoppers, window openers, or drink coasters :)

For students in Pre-K through 2nd, as well as our cluster program classes, we have iPads available for you to sign out. You can come to Solomon daily between 9am-4pm (Door #1) to sign out a device.

On a completely unrelated note, be on the lookout for communication from the district, as well as me, later tonight or early tomorrow regarding Chicago Public School and Chicago Teachers Union negotiations, which may have an impact on our daily schedule. Please stay tuned to local news and any phone/email updates.

In partnership,

Chris Gamble
