Dear Solomon Family--

I apologize for the early morning email. Confirming what has been shared via text, robocall, and email from the district, all classes and activities at Solomon and all CPS schools are canceled for today, January 5. There will be no remote or in-person instruction.

Please check your email today for more information from both Solomon and Chicago Public Schools, as we will share more information as it arises. In the event that there is a shift to remote learning, we will reach out to you with more information on how you can receive a device. For now, though, we are waiting for further direction from the district.

As far as assistance with child care today, the district has shared the following resources:

  • The Safe Haven Sites listed here are available for childcare. Sites will be open from 8am - 3pm. Registration is available on site and a parent or guardian must be present with the child at the time of registration.
  • The Chicago Park District field houses will be open during normal operating hours. These facilities will be available to CPS students ages 6 and older who are in need of accommodations on Wednesday. All Chicago Park District programs will take place as scheduled. For more information on park locations and hours of operation, visit chicagoparkdistrict.com

Additionally, take-home breakfast and lunch will be available between 9am-12pm for any community member under the age of 18 who is in need of a meal. Please come to door #6 if you are interested.

I want to acknowledge the collective frustration and disappointment with this situation. I feel it too. Let's hope for a quick resolution and timely communication about everyone's next steps.

In partnership,

Chris Gamble
