Dear Solomon Family--

In assessing our current staffing levels, we do not have the ability to safely offer any meaningful programming on Monday. Please understand that each school has unique circumstances and resources, and that this situation is evolving daily. As a result, there will be no remote or in-person instruction at Solomon on Monday, January 10.

That said, next week we will have the following:
  • Our scheduled vaccination event on Monday, January 10, is happening as scheduled, between 10am-1pm. Students ages 5 and up are eligible for COVID vaccinations. We are hosting two vaccination opportunities with the Pfizer vaccine at Solomon on January 10 and January 31. To sign up in advance, click here (in Spanish) for the January 10 session and here (in Spanish) for the January 31 session. For the January 10 vaccination event, please come to Door #4 on Granville (gym entrance) to enter the school.

  • Our Local School Council meeting will be held virtually on Tuesday, January 11, at 5:30pm. The link to the meeting is, and all members of our community are invited to join us.

  • If a student or staff member is signed up for our weekly COVID testing service, we invite them to come to Door #1 on Wednesday, January 12, between 1:00-3:00pm to be tested. If you would like to sign your child up for COVID testing please click here.

  • Last, we are putting plans into place for a limited number of students to come to Solomon for non-instructional open gym and board game activities next week, Tuesday through Friday. To learn more information and to sign up, please click here. Due to the limited staff available to supervise students, group sizes will be kept small, and signing up does not guarantee a spot. That said, it is our effort to give the students some activities outside of the home. It is 100% optional. If you have questions about the programming, please reach out to me at

Again, this is an active negotiation between the district and the CTU, and circumstances may change. I will continue to send out communication to you before 4pm daily to give you more guidance on the coming day(s).

Additionally, the district has shared the following resources:

  • Independent Learning Projects are available for all students. Hard copies are available at Solomon at Door #1 between 9am-4pm daily, and digital copies can be found at this link.
  • The Safe Haven Sites listed here are available for childcare. Sites will be open from 8 a.m.–3 p.m. Registration is available on site, and a parent or guardian must be present with the child at the time of registration.
  • Chicago Park District field houses will be open during normal operating hours. These facilities will be available to CPS students ages six and older. All Chicago Park District programs will take place as scheduled. For more information on park locations and hours of operation, visit
  • Chicago Public Library locations are open during normal hours (children must be accompanied by an adult and can’t be left at the library unattended). CPL has grab-and-go kits with activities for children to do in the library or to take home.
  • Community Based Organizations throughout the city are offering daytime programs for students. A list of programs can be found here. This list will be updated as new programs are identified. For more information about programs and how to register, please reach out to the contact - or visit the website - listed.

Additionally, take-home breakfast and lunch will be available between 9am-12pm for any community member under the age of 18 who is in need of a meal. Please come to door #6 if you are interested.

I wish you well and hope that you are able to make some time for yourself and your family this weekend.

In partnership,

Chris Gamble
