Thank you to those who attended Curriculum Night last week. It was a great opportunity to build relationships, hear from teachers about the upcoming school year, and support two-way communication throughout the year.

Friends of Solomon School-Parent Teacher Organization Updates
Please sign our for our parent group at Solomon, the Friends of Solomon School Parent Teacher Organization (FOSSPTO). A copy of the membership form is attached, and you can stop in at the main office to pick up another sheet or pay this year's dues.

Thank you to all that attended our first meeting of the year on September 18. The schedule for the year, including meetings and our big events like the Solomon Soiree, is located on the school's Google Calendar at solomon.cps.edu.

There is a vacancy on the board of the FOSSPTO. If interested in applying, please reach out to solomonpto@gmail.com for more information.

McTeacher Night is coming to the McDonalds at 3241 W. Peterson on October 9 from 4:30-7:30! With these slips, 15% of sales come back to our FOSSPTO. Plus, see Solomon staff and friends working at McDonalds that evening!

News and Notes
  • Fee information: A big "thank you" to the families that have been sending in their students fees. Our fees for this school year will remain the same as the past two years--$75 per student, and a reduced fee of $50 for each additional child. Fees can be paid in cash, check, or money order. Fees support technology and text purchases, and timely payment of fees is helpful.

  • Practice started this past week for our Cross Country runners, and the first practice for our Girls' Volleyball team will be Monday, September 23. Athletes will have letters from the coaches that detail the practice schedule, game dates, and contact information. If you have questions about the season, please reach out to the coaches directly or our Athletic Director, Mr. Martin (cjmartin1@cps.edu).

  • The first Solomon Prospective Parent Tour is scheduled for Friday, October 4, at 9:30am. All tours except January 10, 2020, are on the first Friday of the month, and students will contribute by leading parts of the tour. Dates posted at solomon.cps.edu.

  • Similar to last year, if you would like to volunteer at Solomon this year, you must complete the district's volunteer application form, available here. If you applied and volunteered at Solomon last year, there is no additional action you need to take at this time--this is only for new volunteers and families new to Solomon.

  • Before- and after-care with J at School: You can registration for before- and after-school care (7-9am, 4-6pm) with J at School here.

  • Community Update: The Albany Park Arts Festival, MOSAIC, is September 26-29. Click here for more information.
Open Houses
For the next month or so, we will highlight high school open houses, as the application process begins on September 30. Our school counselor, Ms. Ptak, is happy to answer any questions you might have (saptak@cps.edu). She will see you at the High School Fair at Onahan Elementary on October 16 (see attached).

For our CPS families at Solomon, please feel free to share with Ms. Ptak or Mr. Gamble any other open house dates to highlight. We have a lot of high schools represented in our family, and we are happy to share anything you would like us to highlight.
