October is a time for us to solidify our routines, create proactive student goals, and continue reinforcing COUGAR PRIDE!
October is a special month because it's National Bullying Prevention Month. Please join us this Wednesday, October 21st, by wearing orange to prevent bullying and promote kindness, acceptance, and inclusion! Solomon is committed to ensuring a safe and effective learning environment for all students free from harassment, intimidation, or bullying.
Bullying is defined as aggressive behavior that involves unwanted, negative actions occurring as a pattern repeated over time and often involves a perceived imbalance of power or strength.
Solomon proactively supports healthy student interactions and minimizes bullying or intimidating behaviors through implementation of social emotional learning (SEL). Research shows that SEL improves academic achievement and increases prosocial behaviors such as kindness, sharing, and empathy. In addition to SEL, Second Step, Calm Classroom, and counselor led lessons, Solomon uses restorative practices. We utilize connection circles, solution circles, and strongly encourage communication between our students on intent of actions, impact of actions, and restorative solutions.
