Dear Solomon Family--

I hope that everyone had an enjoyable Spring Break, and I look forward to seeing our daily in-person learners from our Pre-K and cluster program classrooms, as well as our Pod A learners, tomorrow at 9am!

A few reminders from a newsletter shared right before the break:

First, our Picture Re-take Day is scheduled on April 13, 2021. If your child is a remote learner on Tuesdays and you would like a different picture (or if you missed the first Picture Day), please take this survey to identify your preferred times on that day.
  • After you take the survey, our main office will confirm a time with you during the week of April 5.
  • Preferred times may not be accommodated, so please wait for a confirmed time from our main office.
  • Please complete this survey no later than Thursday, April 8.

Second, many of our parents responded to the district Quarter 4 Intent to Return survey, saying that their child(ren) will be returning to in-person instruction at the start of Quarter 4 (the week of April 19). For those parents, please complete this survey to state your preference for in-person pods: Pod A (Monday/Tuesday) or Pod B (Thursday/Friday).
  • This survey is only needed for our general education students in grades K-8 that are currently remote and returning to in-person (hybrid) instruction for the start of Quarter 4.
  • Parents will be informed of their child's pod via email during the week of April 5.
  • We are still evaluating whether we will be able to offer 4 days of instruction for specific classrooms or students, pending enrollment numbers and district COVID regulations. If we are able to offer your child 4 days of in-person instruction, that will be communicated in the same email.
  • Students already attending in-person instruction will remain in the same pod for Quarter 4.
  • Please complete this survey no later than Tuesday, April 6.

Last, as a reminder, if you traveled for Spring Break please review the district's travel guidance, which includes the requirements for returning to the classroom after travel. And don't forget to complete those health screeners tomorrow morning!

In partnership,

Chris Gamble

In-Person Learning Reminders
  • Thank you to those who have submitted the consent form for student COVID testing. As a reminder, this is not required and there are no repercussions if you do not have your students tested. Students are only eligible for testing if they are 10 years and 1 day old or older and if they are in person on the day testing occurs. If you receive an email stating your student is being tested on their non-in person day, please disregard and do not bring your student to school to be tested.

  • The health screener needs to be taken for each student every day. If you are not receiving a personalized text, you can always complete the screener at cps.edu/healthscreener, and you will need to enter your child's CPS email address and birthdate.

  • If your child is feeling sick, PLEASE keep them at home for the safety of all students and staff. Students have the option to learn from home when they are not feeling well. If a student comes to school and exhibits any COVID-19 symptoms, they will be sent to the care room and then picked up by a parent. Students who are sent home after being in the care room are required to provide a doctor's note or negative COVID test clearing them for return.

  • Please review, print, sign, and return the student and parent Cougar Pledges. These behaviors will help keep our students and staff safe, and everyone contributes to our success!

Student meals are available from the district on a grab-and-go basis. While Solomon is not a distribution site, neighboring schools Sauganash Elementary (6040 N. CIADC (Chicago Industrial Arts and Design Center) is excited to open up after school classes in all 4 Department shops, free for CPS students. Interested CPS students should complete this short form, and a CIADC staff member will contact them with instructions for free after school registration. For Saturday classes, students still have the option to apply for tuition assistance here. Their first Spring session begins the week of 3/29, and the second session begins the week of 5/10. Tuition assistance is available.

Solomon Spirit Wear
I am excited to announce that we have a new partner for Solomon spirit wear this year, SquadLocker. Great new gear--t-shirts, hoodies, sweatpants, shorts, polos, face masks...you name it. Peter the Cougar never looked so good. And, you can order at any time, and it will be delivered to your door. This replaces the once-a-year order that our staff and volunteers had previously organized in the building.

Click here to see what is available now, and be the first on your block to represent Solomon in our new gear!
To have your email address added to this distribution list, please complete this form.

Newsletters are also available via our website, solomon.cps.edu. Newsletters are sent out weekly, with the exception of holiday and summer breaks.
