Dear Solomon Family--

This is right about the time each year that we have our winter holiday concert, and I miss those songs and smiling faces more than ever! I am sending everyone positive thoughts and best wishes for your continued health and safety.

I am also so proud of our students for persevering in a challenging learning environment for the first third of the school year, and I am eternally grateful to the adults that love and support them as they continue to learn and grow.

School Re-opening Updates
  • As of now, our Pre-K and cluster program students are scheduled to return to Solomon, 5 days a week, starting January 11, 2021. For all other K-8 students, we will be developing our schedules based on the responses to the intent-to-return forms that are being submitted (see below). This "2nd wave" of students is scheduled, as of now, to return on February 1, 2021, and their hybrid schedule can be between 2-4 days per week, depending on a variety of factors that we will need to evaluate.

  • Illinois State Board of Education, Chicago Public Schools, and Chicago Department of Public Heath guidelines will inform all of our plans for instruction and the safety of students and staff when they return to the building. We prioritize the health and safety of our entire community in our decision making.

  • We will be hosting a town hall meeting for all parents regarding Solomon's re-opening plans. You can join us on Wednesday, December 9, at 5pm (Google Meet code: meet.google.com/fgd-qrnh-hcq).
  • You should have received an intent-to-return form from the district. If you have not done so already, please complete the form by Monday, December 7, so we know if we should expect to see your child back in the classroom in early 2021. If you did not receive the form or have questions, please contact the Solomon main office directly at 773-534-5226.

Applications for 2021-2022 School Year
January 8, 2021 is the NEW deadline for submitting applications on Go CPS, including our 8th graders applying for high school, Pre-Kindergarten students that live outside of our attendance boundaries and want to attend Solomon for Kindergarten, and any other non-Solomon students that live outside the attendance boundary and want to come to Solomon in grades K-8 in the 2021-2022 school year.

If you currently have a child at Solomon, live outside the attendance boundary, and you are looking to bring another child to Solomon next year, be sure to apply with "sibling preference" so we can prioritize your application. For more information on the sibling process, click here.

If you are enrolled in our Pre-K program and do not live in our attendance boundaries, then admission to Solomon for kindergarten is not guaranteed. You will need to complete the Go CPS application.

Families already enrolled at Solomon in grades K-7 do not need to submit another application to return--this is only for students that will be new to Solomon in the fall of 2021.

Families of 8th graders in our special education cluster program will need to complete a Go CPS application for their high school application, but families of Pre-K students in our cluster program will not need to do that for their kindergarten placement. If you are in the cluster program and have a question about the application and placement processes, please reach out to our case manager, Mrs. Chazdon (slchazdon@cps.edu), with any questions.

News and Notes
  • This winter, CPS will offer NWEA MAP Growth in-person testing for GoCPS considerations. Testing will take place from 1/11/21-1/15/21 at the schools where students are currently enrolled. Testing is restricted to students in 6th, 7th & 8th grades who have both submitted GoCPS applications for high school programs with academic criteria for the selection process and opt into winter testing. No other students should be tested in-person during the winter window. Friends of Solomon School PTO Updates
  • Our next Friends of Solomon School PTO meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, December 9, at 6pm (right after the re-opening town hall meeting). The meeting code ismeet.google.com/jqc-frkm-mtu.

A free, permanent COVID testing site has opened in our community at 3003 W. Touhy, the Bernard Horwich JCC. Advance appointments are required. For more information, click here.

Student meals are available from the district on a grab-and-go basis. While Solomon is not a distribution site, neighboring schools Sauganash Elementary (6040 N. Solomon Spirit Wear
I am excited to announce that we have a new partner for Solomon spirit wear this year, SquadLocker. Great new gear--t-shirts, hoodies, sweatpants, shorts, polos, face masks...you name it. Peter the Cougar never looked so good. And, you can order at any time, and it will be delivered to your door. This replaces the once-a-year order that our staff and volunteers had previously organized in the building.
