Dear Solomon Family--

We will welcome back our Pre-K and Cluster program students on Monday, January 11, at 9am. These are our "wave one" students. Our second wave students in grades K-8 from our general education program are scheduled to return to Solomon on February 1. For students in waves one and two that have requested to continue with remote learning, any schedule changes for remote learning will be communicated directly by the classroom teacher.

*IMPORTANT*

If you are have a child in grades K-8 in our general education program and responded to the district survey that your child will attend in-person (hybrid) instruction starting February 1, we would like to hear your preference for which 2 days your child(ren) will attend: Monday and Tuesday or Thursday and Friday. Please respond to this Solomon survey by Friday, January 15.

In partnership,

Chris Gamble
Principal
Hannah G. Solomon Elementary School
School Reopening Updates
  • Parents of our Pre-K and Cluster program students, please review this letter detailing important procedural changes at Solomon, effective January 11.

  • We hosted a re-opening meeting for our Pre-K and Cluster program parents on January 6. You can watch a video of the meeting here.

  • For a Solomon Parent FAQ document that we have started, please click here.

  • With students preparing to re-enter the building, I want to remind parents of the daily health requirements. Parents will need to complete the health screener daily (cps.edu/healthscreener) in order for their child to enter the building. Students that fail the screening will not be permitted to attend school that day, and students that have not taken the screener will not be permitted to join their classmates until the screener is complete.
  • A link to all re-opening information from the district is available here, and a multi-page re-opening guidance document for parents is available here.

  • For guidance specific to district attendance and grading policies during our reopening, please click here.

  • The district is hosting a series of meetings to address re-opening questions and concerns from the community. For more information, check out the list of events on the CPS Calendar page.

  • Families of wave 2 students (K-8 general education): We will be hosting two parent meetings on Thursday, January 21 (6pm) and Friday, January 22 (8:30am).

While we are still working through whether we will be able to offer before and after school care for in-person learners at Solomon starting February 1, I am excited to announce that we have qualified for a grant from the district's OST (Out of School Time) office that will allow us to host some digital clubs and potentially some in-person clubs for students at Solomon during the second semester. Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks!
Congratulations, Constantine!
Congratulations, Tyra!

Our Solomon Girl Scout troops have remained active this year, providing opportunities to connect socially while building their leadership and citizenship skills. They are fundraising for the upcoming year's activities with their annual Girl Scout cookie sales. If you would like to support the Girl Scouts at Solomon and also enjoy everyone's favorite cookies, please go to one of the 2 websites to place your order. There is also an option to donate cookies to members of the Armed Forces if you like. Orders placed before 1/18/2020 in the neighborhood can be delivered directly to your door! Also, if there are any teachers or staff that are interested in purchasing cookies, we can deliver your orders to the school. There is also an option for shipping, at an additional cost. If you have any questions about the sales, please reach out directly to Solomon's Troop Organizer, Joyce Baca (joyce.baca77@gmail.com).

Solomon Spirit Wear
I am excited to announce that we have a new partner for Solomon spirit wear this year, SquadLocker. Great new gear--t-shirts, hoodies, sweatpants, shorts, polos, face masks...you name it. Peter the Cougar never looked so good. And, you can order at any time, and it will be delivered to your door. This replaces the once-a-year order that our staff and volunteers had previously organized in the building.

Click here to see what is available now, and be the first on your block to represent Solomon in our new gear!
To have your email address added to this distribution list, please complete this form.

Newsletters are also available via our website, solomon.cps.edu. Newsletters are sent out weekly, with the exception of holiday and summer breaks.
