Dear Solomon Family--

I hope that everyone enjoyed the warm weather this weekend. Summer is definitely here.

This will be our second-to-last newsletter of the school year. Next week's newsletter will contain more summer information--office hours during the summer, as well as some beginning of the year events that are already on our calendar. Stay tuned!

Two communications that will come out this week, one for everyone and one for our our 8th graders and their families. For our 8th graders, this is a big week, with the pinning, luncheon, and, of course, graduation on Friday! We will send out some updates tomorrow, which will include how you can stream the graduation and bad weather plans.

For everyone else, be on the lookout for the rollout of our "Solomon Summer Camp"--two weeks (July 19-22 and July 26-29) where we will be hosting some summer programming led by Solomon staff. That should be out to the community by Tuesday at the latest.

Last but not least, thanks to everyone for our "S" day in the ABC countdown, Solomon Strong last Friday. Check out our faculty picture below!

News and Notes
We have a Lou Malnati's restaurant giveback scheduled for this Wednesday, June 16. See the flier below for more information--when you show the flier, 20% of all sales will come back to support our Friends of Solomon School Parent Teacher Organization. Don't cook that night--order some pizza!

Please take a few minutes now to complete Chicago Public Schools' Fall 2021 Survey at; it is also available in Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Polish, Urdu, and Arabic. CPS will be welcoming students back to the classroom five days a week, and the district needs your feedback to help shape what next school year will look like. This survey is completely anonymous, and responses need to be submitted by Friday, June 18.

Tuesday, June 15, and Thursday, June 17, is our Field Day Fun for Pods A (Tuesday) and B (Thursday). On both of those days, in-person learners will be outside for some outdoor games and popsicles. Only in-person learners are permitted to attend. Bring some water and dress for the weather! As a result, from 1:45 until 4:00 on Tuesday and Thursday there will only be asynchronous learning for remote students.

Supply lists for our general education homerooms are available to be ordered through Teacher Tailored. Click here to access the lists online; hard copies of the list are traveling home with students who are in-person learners. If you order online through June 25, those supplies will be delivered to your home by August 27. You can also choose to purchase the items from the list on your own as well. If you purchase through Teacher Tailored, a portion of the sales come back to our Friends of Solomon School Parent Teacher Organization.

End-of-year updates:

  • During the last week of school (Monday, June 21, and Tuesday, June 22), we are going to have a small schedule change. Monday, June 21, will stay a day of in-person attendance for our Pod A students. Tuesday, June 22, we are going to ask our Pod B students to attend in-person learning that day. That way, in that last week, we will be able to see all of our in-person learners.

  • We will be collecting Solomon-issued Chromebooks and iPads from all students that have borrowed devices for remote learning. Anyone who collected a device in March 2020 or afterwards, we are going to ask families to return those devices between Monday, June 21, and Thursday, June 24, between the hours of 9:00-4:00 at Door #1. This will allow our technology coordinator to ensure devices are in working order for the start of the 2021-2022 school year.

  • 8th graders will graduate on our turf field at 1pm on Friday, June 18. Please keep in mind that if inclement weather is predicted we may move the time of the ceremonies that day or use Monday, June 21, as a rain date if needed.

Registration for students that will be new to Solomon in grades K-8 next year will continue on Wednesdays between 10am-12pm and 1-3pm through June 23, and dates for summer registration will be shared shortly. Please come to Door #1 with your required documentation; for more information on what is required for registration, please click here. We will be reaching out to some of our waitlisted families that applied to Solomon through the lottery system this week about the registration process. If you have any questions about admissions, please call our main office during school hours, 9:00-4:00, at 773-534-5226.

In-Person Learning Reminders

  • Changes in protocols (entry, dismissal, lunch, etc.) are all detailed in this letter. Please review before returning to in-person learning.

  • The health screener needs to be taken for each student every day. If you are not receiving a personalized text, you can always complete the screener at, and you will need to enter your child's CPS email address and birthdate.

  • If your child is feeling sick, PLEASE keep them at home for the safety of all students and staff. Students have the option to learn from home when they are not feeling well. If a student comes to school and exhibits any COVID-19 symptoms, they will be sent to the care room and then picked up by a parent. Students who are sent home after being in the care room are required to provide a doctor's note or negative COVID test clearing them for return.

  • If you are looking to travel between now and the end of the school year, please review the district's travel guidance for families document.

  • Please review, print, sign, and return the student and parent Cougar Pledges. These behaviors will help keep our students and staff safe, and everyone contributes to our success!

Community Corner

Student meals are available from the district on a grab-and-go basis. While Solomon is not a distribution site, neighboring schools Sauganash Elementary (6040 N. Kilpatrick) and Peterson Elementary (5510 N. Christiana) are both open daily between 8:00-1:00. For more information on the CPS Grab-and-Go Meal Sites, click here.
Solomon Spirit Wear
I am excited to announce that we have a new partner for Solomon spirit wear this year, SquadLocker. Great new gear--t-shirts, hoodies, sweatpants, shorts, polos, face name it. Peter the Cougar never looked so good. And, you can order at any time, and it will be delivered to your door. This replaces the once-a-year order that our staff and volunteers had previously organized in the building.
