Dear Solomon Family--

It was great this past week to have all of our classrooms represented this week, with grades 6-8 reporting last Monday. We have a few weeks between now and the end of the 3rd Quarter, where we won't have any new scheduling changes and we will really be able to dig into this new instructional model of ours. Student and staff safety is our first priority, and as we secure that, we want to continue to support and challenge both our remote and in-person learners. We anticipate that schedules will change again at the start of the 4th Quarter, as more students and staff return. In the meantime, though, it feels great to be underway.

In assessing our scheduling options for Quarter 4, I am looking for some parent feedback on the structure of in-person and remote learning. Please take a few moments to respond to this scheduling survey by March 26. It is appreciated.

And let's all wear green on Wednesday for St. Patrick's Day!

In partnership,

Chris Gamble

News and Notes
Sign-up for our free after-school virtual clubs and programs is now open! Clubs and programs started the week of March 1. These clubs and programs are run by Solomon staff. You can see what programming is available for grades K-8 in our "at-a-glance" document, and after you read about program requirements there, you can sign up here. We have low enrollment in a few of our programs. We Are Ready, Tutoring, and the 6th-8th grade Health and Wellness courses will not run if we don't have more sign-ups by the end of the week, and these clubs contribute to our students' academic success and physical health. Be sure to check them out!

Per CPS policy, the use of school playground equipment is now permitted. For more guidance on the health and safety protocols for school playgrounds, click here.

Thursday, March 18, is Solomon Back to School Day at Backyard Grill (6355 N. Pulaski). Between 10:30am-8pm, you can order a specially-priced cheeseburger or chicken sandwich meal--just ask for the Solomon Special! You can order at 773-478-8802 or in-person.
In-Person Learning Reminders

  • On Monday, March 8, families that have not yet selected in-person learning for their child(ren) received a Quarter 4 Intent to Return survey from the district via text or email. Families currently enrolled in in-person learning will not need to resubmit the intent form for Quarter 4. This week our main office will begin reaching out to families that have not responded to the survey. If families elect to return for Quarter 4, those students would return the week of April 19. We will be getting out Quarter 4 pod information to families after Spring Break.

  • Wednesday is a remote learning day for all students in our K-8 general education program, and Wednesdays have a different schedule than other days according to the district's reopening plan. All teachers have shared those schedules via email and/or your child's Google Classroom page; if you are unsure of your child's schedule on any day, please reach out to the main office.

  • Please review this letter that details different entry times and locations for ALL classrooms. We have staggered entry times between 9:00-9:10 at each door to make sure that pods from different grade levels don't mix.

  • Dismissal times are staggered at each door between 3:50-4:00. Please help us keep students from mixing pods by picking your child up on time.

  • The health screener needs to be taken for each student every day. If you are not receiving a personalized text, you can always complete the screener at cps.edu/healthscreener, and you will need to enter your child's CPS email address and birthdate.

  • If your child is feeling sick, PLEASE keep them at home for the safety of all students and staff. Students have the option to learn from home when they are not feeling well. If a student comes to school and exhibits any COVID-19 symptoms, they will be sent to the care room and then picked up by a parent. Students who are sent home after being in the care room are required to provide a doctor's note or negative COVID test clearing them for return.

  • If you are thinking of traveling for Spring Break, I want to provide a reminder on CPS' policy on travel. If you travel internationally or to a state with widespread COVID transmission as indicated in the Chicago Emergency Travel Order (which has been revised with states such as Wisconsin, Indiana, and Michigan no longer requiring a quarantine) you are required to quarantine for 10 days or the parent needs to provide a negative COVID test within 72 hours of returning.

  • Please review, print, sign, and return the student and parent Cougar Pledges. These behaviors will help keep our students and staff safe, and everyone contributes to our success!

Solomon Spirit Wear
I am excited to announce that we have a new partner for Solomon spirit wear this year, SquadLocker. Great new gear--t-shirts, hoodies, sweatpants, shorts, polos, face masks...you name it. Peter the Cougar never looked so good. And, you can order at any time, and it will be delivered to your door. This replaces the once-a-year order that our staff and volunteers had previously organized in the building.

Click here to see what is available now, and be the first on your block to represent Solomon in our new gear!
