Dear Solomon Family--

Thank you for all that made teacher and staff appreciation week a success this past week. We had fun celebrating our staff, and your contributions were a big part of that! See below for pictures from some of the festivities last week.

We send love to all of our mothers today--Happy Mother's Day!

We have a few community meetings this week, including our Local School Council meeting on Tuesday where we discuss the FY22 school budget. All are welcome to join and participate! Please see below for more information.

In partnership,

Thank you to Alderman Nugent and the 39th Ward team for the recognition and the donuts!

Please come to Door #1 with your required documentation; for more information on what is required for registration, please click here. We are hearing that families who applied through the online application for non-neighborhood residents should be notified by the end of the month.

The pre-k application for the 2021–22 school year is open now. There are more than 600 CPS and community-based preschool programs located throughout the city; choose the program that is best for your family. To learn more about applying for pre-k, visit, call (312) 229-1690, or make an appointment with one of the city’s family resource centers.

Please see this link for our breakfast and lunch menus through May 14.

Please take a moment and review the medical requirements for 2021-2022 school year by clicking here. Now is a good time to make those appointments for summer physicals!

Construction on the Granville Ave. sidewalk continues, and should wrap up, this week. The work is intended to replace the sidewalk between Hamlin and Avers. We've asked the construction company to avoid working at entry and dismissal times, as we will continue to use Door #5 for student entry and exit.
In-Person Learning Reminders
  • Changes in protocols (entry, dismissal, lunch, etc.) are all detailed in this letter. Please review before returning to in-person learning.

  • The health screener needs to be taken for each student every day. If you are not receiving a personalized text, you can always complete the screener at, and you will need to enter your child's CPS email address and birthdate.

  • If your child is feeling sick, PLEASE keep them at home for the safety of all students and staff. Students have the option to learn from home when they are not feeling well. If a student comes to school and exhibits any COVID-19 symptoms, they will be sent to the care room and then picked up by a parent. Students who are sent home after being in the care room are required to provide a doctor's note or negative COVID test clearing them for return.

  • If you are looking to travel between now and the end of the school year, please review the district's travel guidance for families document.

  • Please review, print, sign, and return the student and parent Cougar Pledges. These behaviors will help keep our students and staff safe, and everyone contributes to our success!

I am excited to announce that we have a new partner for Solomon spirit wear this year, SquadLocker. Great new gear--t-shirts, hoodies, sweatpants, shorts, polos, face name it. Peter the Cougar never looked so good. And, you can order at any time, and it will be delivered to your door. This replaces the once-a-year order that our staff and volunteers had previously organized in the building.
