Dear Solomon Family--

Many thanks to our families that joined us for the Participatory Budget committee meeting, the LSC Candidate forum, and our 8th grade high school application information session this past week. We may not be in the building yet, but we are full steam ahead towards our goals and priorities. To do this work consistent with our school vision, we need your participation and leadership. We have two more meetings this coming week, so be sure to get the login information below.

For information on fall sports (!!!), be sure to read the information below.

As a reminder, there is no school on Monday, October 12, as we celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day in Illinois.

In partnership,

Chris Gamble

News and Notes
  • Cross Country for students in grades 5-8: The district announced this week that it will be offering the opportunity for students and coaches to participate in Boys and Girls Cross Country in grades 5-8 this fall. Our top priority will be the safety of our students and coaches, so in order to practice and participate in district meets, there will be strict protocols to follow that include daily health screenings, temperature checks, mandatory use of masks, and social distancing. If your child is interested in participating in Cross Country, please return these completed student registration and consent forms as soon as possible. Students will not be able to start practicing until the 2 forms listed above are submitted and entered in our database by our Athletic Director, Mr. Martin. You can either bring the forms to Solomon or email them to Mr. Martin at cjmartin1@cps.edu.

  • Cross country practices with Coach Sergio, who is also a classroom assistant in our K-2 diverse learner cluster classroom, start next week. Practices will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 6pm on our turf field. Meets will start in late October and continue into November. Due to group size and social congregating requirements, parents and other observers will not be permitted at practices or meets.

  • More news to come, but we have a sneak peak: We will be having our annual Scholastic Book Fair from October 26 to November 8. It will be an online shopping opportunity to build up your book shelf for the coming months, all the while supporting literacy practices at Solomon. Stay tuned!

  • Many thanks to Mrs. Mulholland, our school counselor, for hosting an informational session with our 8th grade students and parents this week on the high school application process and the Go CPS platform. If you missed it, you can catch the recording here. Need assistance with your high school application? Request services in the Counselor's Corner on our school website.

  • It is a district requirement that students in Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 6th grades complete immunizations and a health exam. The district's minimum health requirements are available here. Links to necessary health forms can be found here, or they can also be obtained at Solomon. Upon completion, please put the forms in the secure drop box at Door #1 or e-mail them to our school clerk, Mrs.Tamborino, at atamborino@cps.edu.

Solomon Spirit Wear
I am excited to announce that we have a new partner for Solomon spirit wear this year, SquadLocker. Great new gear--t-shirts, hoodies, sweatpants, shorts, polos, face masks...you name it. Peter the Cougar never looked so good. And, you can order at any time, and it will be delivered to your door. This replaces the once-a-year order that our staff and volunteers had previously organized in the building.

Click here to see what is available now, and be the first on your block to represent Solomon in our new gear!
To have your email address added to this distribution list, please complete this form.

Newsletters are also available via our website, solomon.cps.edu. Newsletters are sent out weekly, with the exception of holiday and summer breaks.
