Dear Solomon Family--

Thank you, parents, for joining us this past Tuesday for our Curriculum Night. For those of you who missed it, recordings of some of our sessions are available here.

Our Cougar Morning Tweet is back! Check it out below...

We have two surveys going where we are looking for your input. First, to get your feedback on the remote learning experience, we have created a parent survey (here) to help us hear your perspectives on remote learning so far. Second, Solomon is submitting a proposal for the 39th Ward Participatory Budget process; for more on what participatory budgeting is, click here. We are proposing playground enhancements that will improve our facilities for our students and our community. To gather your feedback on our playground needs, we would love for all members of the Solomon community to respond to this survey by October 1.

In partnership,

Chris Gamble
Principal
Hannah G. Solomon Elementary School
Check out our very own Henry S. from our Pre-K classroom with Mrs. Coppa and Mrs. Wiviott. Way to go, Henry, and congrats for being on WGN's E-Learner Honor Roll!
New this year!
I am excited to announce that we have a new partner for Solomon spirit wear this year, SquadLocker. Great new gear--t-shirts, hoodies, sweatpants, shorts, polos, face masks...you name it. Peter the Cougar never looked so good. And, you can order at any time, and it will be delivered to your door. This replaces the once-a-year order that our staff and volunteers had previously organized in the building.

Click here to see what is available now, and be the first on your block to represent Solomon in our new gear!
News and Notes

  • Spirit Week is coming! During the week of October 5, we will have a series of days that will help to promote school community, courtesy of our Friends of Solomon School - PTO. Stay tuned!

  • To help students, families, and staff understand their roles and expectations during remote learning, we've created a document that helps demonstrate what perseverance, teamwork, and respect look like during remote learning. Check it out here.

  • Student meals are available from the district on a grab-and-go basis. While Solomon is not a distribution site, neighboring schools Sauganash Elementary (6040 N. Kilpatrick) and Peterson Elementary (5510 N. Christiana) are both open daily between 8:00-1:00. For more information on the CPS Grab-and-Go Meal Sites, click here.

  • Teachers are monitoring student attendance during each live/synchronous session, and our main office will adjust attendance throughout the day based on that. It is vital that your child is in class on time and throughout the duration of the day. If technology is preventing your child from accessing class, please call the main office for assistance. If your child is going to be absent, we ask that you continue to follow routine attendance procedure by calling the main office (773-534-5226). An email is not considered a valid submission and will not be accepted to excuse an absence. When leaving a phone message for our main office on your child's absence, please include the following:
  1. Student first and last name
  2. The date of your child's absence
  3. If not a full day absence, the length of time for the absence
  4. The reason for the absence
  5. Your full name (you must be listed as a parent or legal guardian in the student's records)
  6. Your contact number
Family Income Information Form
