Out-of-School Time:

Solomon run before and after School enrichment programming

This program is designed to give students opportunities before or after school. CPS has funds dedicated to helping schools build and develop high quality out of school time programs. Countless studies have confirmed the positive effects of OST on academic performance, behavior and attendance. There is no fee associated with any of these programs.

The activities that Solomon offers vary from year to year. These activities must fall into one of the four criteria, Academic Acceleration, Enrichment, Health and Fitness and High School/College Readiness. In the past three years we have had the following programs offered:Math and Reading Tutoring, Movie Club, Yearbook, Debate, Board Game Club, Soccer, Tumbling, Volleyball, Anime Drawing, Sewing, Gay Straight Alliance, Environmental Alliance, Assyrian Culture Club, and the Solomonshire musical performance group. These programs change yearly based on our student voice. We survey the students and find programs that interest students.

The programs run on a set schedule usually once a week throughout the academic school year. At the end of the program we have a culminating event to celebrate the programs. Some of these celebrations occur around our International Night celebration that occurs the first Friday of June each year. In the past, we have had our Solomonshire group perform at Daley Plaza’s Christkindlmarket, and our Assyrian language and culture program dress in traditional clothing and perform an Assyrian dance during our International Night.

Students must commit to the whole program and attendance is mandatory due to the waitlist for programs.

Questions about the program can be directed to Mrs. Angela Tamborino at ajtamborino@cps.edu.
